Amazing it is with all our sprint talent over the years we have never won a Olympic 100M Gold medal. Frist Herb 1952 Lennox Miller 1968 and Don Quarrie 1976 on the men's side came up short by one and Merlene 1996 also. However it is my opinion that through out her long and illustrious career Merlene was the victim of sucessive drug cheats mainly the East Germans in the 1980's.
It is looking like with Asafa and Usain both living and training at home with home grown and based Coaches the results can be different this year. What is wonderful about all of this is that Jamaican athletes now have the choice of staying at home and train and become world beaters ( over the last 10 years the Coaching talent has caught up with the obvious talent of the athletes) So thanks to USA Universities for the help over these many years however some of us will now stay home and get the job done. However still take good care of our brothers and sisters who it serves better to come to your country to develop there talent.

As stated in the article, Jamaica has come close many times before but never won the Olympic 100m. Hopefully it will be different this year as we are blessed with a wonderful crop of sprinters. In addition to the 100m dash, we are also on course to win both 4x100m relays with a possible world record in the men's. The women's event might be close as both Jamaica and the US have three runners each who have gone below 11 seconds this year. It will be a games for the ages I think...at least from Jamaica's perspective.

Jamaicans are noted to be sprinters from the time ofChristopher Columbus, and the slave trade.People have ask if it is the water we have here, or the yam that grows all over the island, but mostly in the parish of Trelawny where Bolt and Veronica Campbell Brown comes from. But for an island our size we are the best when it come to sprints just look at BAILEY.CHRISTIE AND JHONSON,all so ATKINS from the Bahamas. And in the pass Qurrie,Miller,McKenley,Stewart, Fray and others. This year the Black, Green and Gold flag of JAMAICA will rise when the 100 meters final is completed for both men and women at the Olympics, remember I told you so.Jamaica the sprint factory, come U.S.A. to our island and learn a thing or two.
